Water-based barrier coating paper is a PFAS-free, plastic-free packaging material made by applying a water-based barrier coating to paper substrates. This technology uses aqueous dispersions of polymers to create a protective layer that resists grease, oil, and moisture without relying on fluorochemicals or plastic lamination.
Key applications include fast-food wrappers, cupstock board, food service board, burger papers, and paper cups. Water-based coated paper is recyclable and repulpable, making it compatible with existing paper recycling streams. It offers excellent grease resistance (Kit 8-12), good heat-seal properties, and cost-effectiveness for high-volume food packaging applications.
Water-based barrier coatings are among the most widely adopted PFAS-free alternatives in the food packaging industry, serving as a direct replacement for traditional PE-coated and PFAS-treated papers.
